Richard Urwin, Chair of the Investment Committee features in Citywire

Saranac Partners is delighted to share that Richard Urwin, Chair of our Investment Committee, has written for Citywire on the recurring bull case for Chinese equities.

Richard asserts that every time the bull case for Chinese equities fails, it returns with a new story. A decade ago, investors were buying the economy. Now they are buying the technology, and while several major houses have upgraded their positions on that basis, Saranac’s exposure to China remains small.

The technology is genuinely impressive, Richard notes, but the structural problem hasn’t changed: governance still prioritises output and political goals over shareholder returns. It’s a case of new wine in old wineskins.
