Saranac Partners and EMV Capital lead investment in Cambridge-focused tech investor Martlet Capital

Saranac Partners has invested in the newly formed Cambridge-focused tech investor Martlet Capital, a spin-out from Marshall of Cambridge (Holdings) Ltd, one of the UK’s largest family-owned businesses. This is a co-investment with venture capital investor EMV Capital.

Martlet capital is a portfolio of significant, early stage, high-tech investments in the Cambridge technology cluster, across sectors including life science, healthcare, cleantech sustainability, industrial and semi-conductor technology. The firm is led by Robert Marshall as Chairman and Paul Bailey as CEO and continues to provide seed stage funding and early follow-on funding in both current portfolio companies and new investment targets. The firm leverages the globally recognised Cambridge technology cluster, which has a successful history of producing high-value technology companies.

Robert Crowter-Jones, of Saranac Partners, said: “Martlet Capital is a fantastic investment for Saranac Partners, in a sector where we see enormous growth potential. The business has an exciting future, and we look forward to working together.

“Martlet has established itself as an important seed stage investor in the Cambridge deeptech start up eco system.  With an outstanding team and long-standing relationships with the University of Cambridge and the local technology and investment community we aim to be the seed stage funding partner of choice.

“The backing and partnership with Saranac and EMV substantially enhances our ability to invest in more deeptech companies and the addition of the Saranac/EMV lead follow on MarQuity fund gives us the ability to see these companies through inception all the way to exit.“
